One of the most amazing places in the whole of the beautiful Marina Alta area of Spain can be found in El Poble Nou Benitaxell (Benitachell).
The fabulously imposing Cumbre del Sol (La Cumbre), with it´s spectacular mediterranean sea views has one of the largest urbanizations in the whole of the Alicante province, if not in the whole of Spain itself. It is located on the Costa Blanca north in between the beautiful tourist resorts that are the coastal towns of Javea (Xabia) and Moraira. Cumbre del Sol is approx 12 km in distance from the neighbouring town of Calpe, 30 km from the famous tourist hot spot of Benidorm, 75 km from the city of Alicante and just 102 km away from the city of Valencia. It´s proximity to both Alicante and Valencia provides the option of two different international airports for travelers to utilize in order to access this region.
The residential urbanization area of Cumbre del Sol hugs the sea front of the med and extends over a large surface area of 3.700.000 m². Cumbre del Sol is divided into many different residential areas that include villas of all sizes (many luxury villas), detached houses, bungalows and apartments. All of this is situated right next to the beautiful blue Mediterranean Sea and it´s fabulous open vistas.
There are a number of spectacular viewpoints on Cumbre del Sol that each contain a variety of amazing and wonderful views. As you drive up the La Cumbre hill, the first viewpoint offers magnificent views from the left to the Peñón de Ifach rock and the town of Calpe. Look straight ahead to view the Pueblo of Benitachell, the urbanizations of Les Fonts, Tesoro Park, Covatelles, El Molins, Los Molinos and the town of Teulada in the distance. To the right offers up amazing views of Javea (Xabia) and the mediterranean sea. Once you have scaled the climb to Cumbre del Sol the multiple viewing points available offer yet more amazing views of the whole picturesque area, including Teulada and Moraira.
Cumbre del Sol is surrounded by specially protected areas, such as the natural park of Granadella (Forestry Park and Cove, Javea), the puig de Llorença mountain (which is 445 metres above sea level and considered to be one of the main vantage points in the Marina Alta) and the Portet de Moraira beach (El Portet).
Portet de Moraira beach (El Portet beach) is particularly special for many ex-pats living in this area as each Christmas day there are many people who dress up in Xmas outfits and bring lots of food and drink which is then shared freely to reflect the spirit of the day. If you are ever here for Xmas it´s well worth checking out this unique local celebration which sums up the friendly nature of the local community. Amazingly some revelers even decide to take a seasonal dip in the mediterranean sea.
The closest beach to Cumbre del Sol is called Morach or Cala Del Moraig beach. It is a smallish size beach that has coarse sand and pebbles throughout. There is ample car parking available close to the beach and it also has it´s own eating and drinking area. The Los Arcos cave can also be accessed via Cala Del Moraig beach and it is a great place for scuba diving. A few metres from the entrance to the Cala Del Moraig beach begins one of the most beautiful trails on the coast that runs over the cliffs. This is a great area for swimming, scuba diving and walking.
The Los Tiestos Cove (des Testos) lies beneath El Morro Falqui. The entrance is located just before the downward path that goes to the Cala Del Moraig beach, on the left, via a small path. This is a very sheltered small cove which is renowned for being both a nudist area and a very private cove. From the park area located above the beach and the cove there are beautiful views to be seen of the Cala Del Moraig beach, the Los Tiestos cove and also El Morro Falqui.
Another cove to note is the Llebeig cove. To reach it you need to follow a path from the end of the Pueblo Montecala residential area and walk for about fifteen minutes. The local fishermen of Benitachell (El Poble Nou Benitaxell) are said to utilize the Llebeig cove as part of their work. There are other ways of finding this lovely cove and one is through the trails that begin either from the Cala Del Moraig beach or from El Portet in Moraira.
There are many different residential areas on Cumbre del Sol, on a development that boasts two shopping centers, a supermarket store, a chemists and a hardware store. There are also bars, restaurants, sports facilities (paddle tennis and tennis courts, an equine center), many rambling routes, fabulous panoramic viewpoints, plenty of open green spaces, coves to explore and of course the Cala Del Moraig beach. The area has many amenities for it´s residents to use.
There are fourteen residential areas in total on Cumbre Del Sol which are called Adelfas (includes a shopping center, medico and pharmacy), Begonias (includes a restaurant), Camelias, Dalias, Encinas, Fresnos, Girasoles, Iris, Jazmines, Kalmias, Lirios, Magnolias, Olivos and Palmeras.
The Begonias residential area also contains the Hípica Cañada DEL SOL. This is a sizeable equine center that also contains a really nice tapas bar and a restaurant. The Hípica Cañada DEL SOL provides a horse petting zoo and the opportunity to take part in horseback trips around the Parque Natural in Granadella (classed as Javea). This is a great place for young kids to learn how to ride their first pony and have lots of fun in beautiful surroundings. Parque Narural in Granadella is the perfect place to enjoy this type of outdoor activity.
In 2015 the famous cycling race “La Vuelta” comes to Cumbre del Sol for the first time. This part of the Costa Blanca witnesses stage nine of the tour of Spain race, and Benitachell, and in particular Cumbre del Sol, will witness the finish as pro cyclists end a grueling, punishing race by climbing “La Cumbre” to the finish line.
